I must first admit that I do not own the lastest version of Macdrive but I do own Macdrive 7. I received very little support from Mediafour and gave up on using the program because of all the errors I was receiving. Once I had made the purchase they had very little interest in me. -- Poor Customer Support
This produce installed easily, saw the hard drive but said it couldn't be read because of encoding. The drive was new, out of the box. I called for help and was told to contact the drive vendor. They said there wasn't anything wrong. All I could do was return the drive to the customer along with the files on one of my hard drives. Haven't seen the software really work. -- Semi works, NO SUPPORT
I have Macdrive 8 installed on our HP laptop running Windows Vista. It works. I was able to read and write to my USB external backup drive that has an exact mac-formatted mirror-image backup of the harddrive from my Macbook. I was able to use Windows Explorer to go through the mac-formatted drive to read and copy files. That's the basic capability that I wanted and that all works for me. Go to the MediaFour website to get the trial version of Macdrive 8 if you want to test it out for yourself. I've only used Macdrive 8 with Windows Vista. If you have Windows 7, the MediaFour website seems to indicate Windows 7 compatibility but they say to check for updates. Check with the MediaFour website for yourself.
For those who have both Mac and PC, I would suggest getting: (1) Macdrive 8 for your PC; and (2) Paragon NTFS for Mac 7 for your mac. You don't have to get both, but I have both for maximum flexibility for accessing drives from either mac or windows using either type of computer whether on a Mac or a windows-only PC. With Macdrive, I can read and write to mac-formatted drives using a windows PC (i.e., our HP laptop). And with Paragon NTFS for Mac, I can directly read and write to windows NTFS-formatted drives using my Macbook. Thank you for reading this short review. -- Macdrive 8 is a must-have if you have both PC and Mac
